Bridal Prep Tips for a stress free wedding morning
As a documentary wedding photographer, capturing the special moments during bridal prep is one of my favourite parts of a wedding day. The quiet anticipation and emotions before the ceremony set the tone for everything that follows. To help make your wedding morning as relaxed and enjoyable as possible, here are my top tips to reduce stress and ensure a beautiful start to your day.
1. Choose a calm and spacious environment
Where you get ready is more important than you might think! Choose a location that feels calming, spacious, and is filled with natural light. Whether it’s a suite, a cosy room, or even a bright space in your home, your environment should be one that helps you feel relaxed. A clutter-free space not only feels less stressful but also allows for beautiful, clean photos that capture the energy of the morning.
Tip for photos: Natural light is a photographer’s best friend — big windows with soft light help create stunning images that feel warm and authentic.
2. Give yourself plenty of time
It sounds obvious, but the key to a stress-free wedding morning is time. Give yourself more time than you think you need for hair, makeup, and putting your dress on. Building in a buffer will keep you from feeling rushed and let you fully enjoy the excitement of the morning.
Tip for photos: A relaxed timeline will help your photographer capture candid, emotional moments that tell the true story of your wedding morning.
3. Surround yourself with your closest people
When it comes to who you have around you on the morning of your wedding, less is often more. Try to keep your bridal prep space limited to your bridal party and closest family members. Too many people can create unnecessary chaos and stress — exactly what you want to avoid on such an important day! With just your most trusted loved ones nearby, you’ll feel more at ease, allowing for a calm, positive atmosphere.
Tip for photos: Smaller groups can create more intimate moments that really come through in your photos, capturing the emotional connections between you and those closest to you.
4. Have your details ready to go
One of the best ways to streamline your bridal prep is to gather all your special details in one place before the photographer arrives. Having a dedicated box next to your dress and shoes with items like your jewellery, fragrance, stationery, or any other sentimental pieces saves time and ensures nothing is missed. This way, your photographer can capture all the meaningful details without delay.
Tip for photos: These personal details help tell the complete story of your wedding day and look beautiful in photos, adding another layer of depth and meaning to your gallery.
5. Set the mood with music
Music has a magical way of setting the tone for your day. Create a playlist of your favorite songs—whether it’s fun, upbeat tracks to get you and your bridal party excited, or softer tunes to help you feel calm and present. The right music will keep the energy light and joyful, helping everyone relax and enjoy the moment.
Tip for photos: Music can create a relaxed atmosphere that will naturally shine through in your photos, making them feel even more authentic.
